Monsters at the Movies by Jessianna Dodge
I went to the movies with two of my girls in December; Meighan and Rashida. We went to see MONSTA X: THE DREAMING in Olathe. Rashida had her light stick with her and we all had our shirts on. I had not done any research on the movie or its content, so I was eager to see it.
It was the most amazing interview/behind the scenes concept. The members are Minhyuk, Kihyun Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M. Their sixth member, Shownu, was completing his military service, and therefore unavailable. The movie covered footage of the band working on the concept of this movie, (and I believe set ideas for their tour) and several of their previous and newly released songs. It was like a mini concert with several clips of them working on the movie production. The group members were very focused on connecting with their fans, known as Monbebes. They hoped to show how much Monbebes mean to the group, by making the film and tour special. The members were worried about how Monbebe were doing during the pandemic and wanted to let them know that they hadn’t forgotten them by working hard for their fans.
Even with the pandemic still in full swing, Monsta X is on the rise. I believe that they will continue to be a moving force in the K-Pop wave here. I hope to see them in concert in the future. They currently have 14 tour stops scheduled in North America this spring.
Monsta X: The Dreaming
Expert opinion
Nineties-style harmonies, slick choruses, and head-bopping beats come together to create an infectious LP.
Everything comes together … on the gorgeous lead single, “One Day,”.
